Chris Bylsma, will be returning to San Diego. She will give our program on March 6th & will be teaching four workshops in conjunction with her visit to our Guild. Following is a description of each workshop, the date and time. Workshop fees are $25.00 per member, per workshop. Space is limited to 25 participants. All workshops will be held at the San Dieguito United Methodist Church in Encinitas, in classroom #6.

BEYOND BUTTONSWORKSHOP
Can't find the perfect buttons? Come play with yarn & discover there are many different types of buttons & closures you can create yourself for that perfect finishing touch.
Supplies: Odd buttons, sock yarn, stash & ribbon yarns for playing, 6"x6" stockinette swatch in the yarn of your choice approximate size needles & crochet hooks along with your basic tools (scissors, needles, etc.).

EIGHT EMPOWERING EDGES
Learn eight hard-working edges (and maybe a few more) that empower you as a knitter to create beautiful, professional details, provide control needed for various edges & give you the option of making your own design decisions in a project.
HOMEWORK:
Swatch #1: Work a 6"x6" stockinette swatch in a smooth, light-colored worsted weight yarn with appropriate needles. Bind off.Work a swatch similar to the first swatch for 3 inches. Bind off 6 sts at the beginning
Swatch #2: of the next right side row. Then bind off 2 sts at the same edge every right side row 3 times. Continue even until the swatch is 6 inches. Bind off.
Swatch #3: Cast on 27 sts. Knit (garter) 5 rows, do not bind off or cut yarn.
Supplies: Yarn & needles used for swatches for additional swatching in class, circular needles two sizes smaller, contrast color yarn, crochet hooks of various sizes, scissors, stitch markers.

STEEKS TO THE RESCUE
Learn three different non-machine ways to anchor and cut your knitting (yes!) to change a pullover to a cardigan, shape a neckline, re-size a garment, add armholes and put you in charge.
HOMEWORK:
Work 3 stockinette swatches of 5"x5" in a smooth, light colored worsted weight yarn. On the first swatch keep 4 sts in the middle in twisted knit (knit through the back on the right side, purl through the back on the wrong side). Put the last swatch on a stitch holder rather than binding off.
Supplies: Various size crochet hooks appropriate for the swatches, scissors, calculator, tape measure, tapestry needle, yarn & needles used for the swatches, circular needle two sizes smaller than swatch needles.

POCKET POSSIBILITIES
Knitted in pockets are so convenient, beautiful and yes, easy! Learn where to place pockets and how to determine the correct size for you as we explore several patch, slit and slash pockets that can be added at any stage in the knitting, even after the garment is done.
HOMEWORK:
Use smooth, light colored yarn and needles that will yield 3.5 - 4 st/inch
Swatch #1: Cast on 28 sts, work 6" in stockinette and keep on your needles.
Swatch #2: Cast on 18 sts and work 4" in stockinette. Cut yarn & place on a holder.
Swatch #3:Cast on 14 sts and work 2" in stockinette. Place on a holder. Do not cut yarn.
Swatch #4: Cast on 28 sts and work 3" in stockinette. Place on holders. Do not cut yarn. (Yes we will use them all!)
Swatch #5: Cast on 28 sts and work 4" in stockinette. Bind off.
Supplies: Basic supplies, yarn and needles used for swatches and contrasting color yarn of same guage/type, needles two sizes smaller than swatch needles, any size double point needles, split ring stitch markers, tape measure, scissors, pen & paper. Optional - bring a finished garment that you would like to add pockets.
